Kassi Price

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama gymnast Kassi Price has been named to ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America Women's At-Large First Team. It marks the second year in a row that Price has been named an Academic All-American and it is the 12th time that an Alabama Gymnast has earned the honor.

"I'm very proud of Kassi and all she's accomplished to this point in her career," Alabama head coach Sarah Patterson said. "She works extremely hard in the classroom, in the gym and in the community and her efforts certainly show."

Price is one of just three juniors named to the first team in 2009 with the rest of the 15-member at-large first team coming from the senior class. The at-large team is drawn from 13 NCAA women's sports, including swimming and diving, golf, gymnastics, tennis and rowing among others.

"I am especially proud of Kassi for earning a place on the Academic All-American At-Large team for the second year in a row," Patterson said. "This award, because it includes so many sports, is very competitive and quite an honor."

Price holds a 4.0 cumulative grade point average and as such has earned President's List honors every semester of her career. She is undertaking a rare double major, Marketing and Advertising, which is especially challenging since her fields of study are in two different schools, business and communications.

This is just latest in honor for the two-year uneven bars All-American. In the spring, she was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, a business honorary recognizing the top 10-percent of the business school's junior class. A member of the 2009 SEC Championship team and a two-time individual NCAA regional champion, the Plantation, Fla. native is a three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll

During her UA career, she has also been inducted into Mortar Board, Omicron Delta Kappa, Blue Key, Golden Key, Cardinal Key, Alpha Lambda Delta, Gamma Beta Phi, Lambda Sigma, Phi Eta Sigma, Sigma Alpha Lambda and National Society of Collegiate Scholars honor societies. Price also earned the Economics Freshman Achievement Award and was named a Commerce and Business Administration Scholar-Athlete.

Price, who will serve as vice president of Alabama's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee during the coming school year, is active in the community, taking part in the gymnastics team's "Power of Pink" initiative, as well as its "Suds for Sully" campaign and SAAC's Halloween Extravaganza and Project Angel Tree and the Tide-Tiger Beat Hunger Food Drive.
