We'll say goodnight until next Saturday from SECs in Birmingham.
[ 9:35 PM, 03/17/06 ]
Congratulations to the Crimson Tide as they move to 14-1 on the season. Roll Tide Bama fans. See you next week in Birmingham.
[ top... ]
Ashley Miles is being interviewed by the WVUA radio crew and is
[ 9:32 PM, 03/17/06 ]
one happy gal. She won the all around tonight and did a terrific job on the balance beam, which the Tide needed before heading into SECs.
[ top... ]
Mari is being interviewed and just confirmed that her decision to come
[ 9:28 PM, 03/17/06 ]
to Bama was completely worth it. All the way from San Jose, California. She had a terrific outing tonight, 9.775 on beam and bars. We thought she was underscored but we are admittedly biased.
[ top... ]
We hope to see you next week in Birmingham at the SEC Championships
[ 9:22 PM, 03/17/06 ]
Alabama will go for title #6 against some formidable competition. Georgia is the favorite and Florida hit 197.325 tonight in Gainesville against Utah (196.650), so it looks like they have the best chance to knock off the Dawgs next to the Tide.

Pink balloons and ribbons float down onto the seniors as they give a
[ 9:16 PM, 03/17/06 ]
final salute to the crowd, standing now in ovation for Ashley Miles and the other five gals. We'll have final scores in a moment.
[ top... ]
Banville gets hit hard on that second pass for a final of 9.700.
[ 9:11 PM, 03/17/06 ]
Miles is now up; she opens with a beautiful double layout; front-front full to front layout; terrific control on that landing; the arena is clapping now to her routine in unison; Foxy Lady! final dance moves; she finishes with a double pike and she's crying already as she completes her final dance moves and then salutes Gail Tourtellotte, who scores her a 9.95 while Evelyn gives the 10. It was easily one of her best of all time but Gail likely took about .05 for the slight shuffle back on the landing of the double layout.
[ top... ]
Puckett receives a 9.825 for her beam routine and Dwyer is through her
[ 9:10 PM, 03/17/06 ]
flight series, wolf 3/4 shows a little balance check; punch front to wolf not completely connected; dismounts with the double twist and sticks the landing.
[ top... ]
Magee gets hit hard on that final pass for a final of 9.550.
[ 9:08 PM, 03/17/06 ]
Mel Banville nails the opening pass of a pike full in but has form problems on the second pass of the front-front full to front layout; she sticks the final double pike. Not sure how the judges will judge this routine.
[ top... ]
Humphrey receives a 9.875 and Magee nails her 1/2 in 1/2 out to open.
[ 9:05 PM, 03/17/06 ]
Next pass is critical - whip-whip-bhs-double pike - nails it! Beautiful switch leap to switch full; double cat leap; finishes with a front through to a double full - unfortunately she does a barani half tuck out of the front and this will be a major deduction. It just did not feel right, so she did the right thing to bail the last elements on that final tumbling pass.
Mills has a 9.675 on the beam. Puckett is looking strong so far but has to take a big step forward on the double tuck dismount, chest down as well.
[ top... ]
Mills is up on beam for the Tigers.
[ 9:03 PM, 03/17/06 ]
She opens with a bhs-bhs-layout stepout, slight shoulder shift to the right; beautiful amplitude and flexibility on her straddle jump combination out of a switch leap; glitches a bit on her front aerial; round off to 1 1/2, off center, step to the right and back.
[ top... ]
Priess receives a 9.675 for her floor and Terin is up.
[ 9:01 PM, 03/17/06 ]
She opens with a super double front Arabian, not as crisp as last week but she stands it up; second pass is better this week, 2 1/2 twist to a punch front, one step forward to balance; she finishes with a double pike, nails the landing Romanian style! The crowd is on their feet.
[ top... ]
Gies gets a 9.700 on beam and Lenkiewicz is struggling with several
[ 9:01 PM, 03/17/06 ]
of her moves; hops forward on the tuck full dismount.
[ top... ]
Erin received a 9.800 score and Court Priess is now up! Hallelujah!
[ 8:59 PM, 03/17/06 ]
She opens with a double tuck, just steps over the line; follows with a strong double pike and closes with a double twist, a little loose in the form but what a great performance regardless for first time out all year. And she never exhibited in any of the previous meets on floor, so that's quite an accomplishment. The coaches put her in for O'Neal who was suffering from a pretty bad headache tonight.
[ top... ]
Somero receives a 9.725 for her beam routine. Gies is now up.
[ 8:57 PM, 03/17/06 ]
[ top... ]
Somero is through her beam routine without a major hitch.
[ 8:55 PM, 03/17/06 ]
Erin Rightley opens for the Tide with a high double pike, refuses to take a step; follows with a front through to a Rudi to a layout stepout; nice finish of a front-front full to a front layout. Terrific routine.
[ top... ]
Humphrey received a 9.800 for her beam routine and Dwyer of Auburn
[ 8:47 PM, 03/17/06 ]
a 9.675 for her floor routine. Bama has probably their best beam rotation of the year, a 49.10 and they have a running total of 147.375 to Auburn's 145.850.
[ top... ]
Cassie Martin is now exhibiting to get her confidence back.
[ 8:45 PM, 03/17/06 ]
She opens with a switch side leap, nice; full turn; front aerial; bhs to layout stepout and she's off; rushed that series just a bit; nice switch leap to double stag jump; bhs to gainer full twist, one step on the landing.
[ top... ]
Puckett receives a 9.775 for her floor routine and Dwyer is up next.
[ 8:44 PM, 03/17/06 ]
She throws a double pike to open and takes two steps back and goes out of bounds; 2 1/2 twist to punch front, form a little loose; front front full to a front layout.
[ top... ]
Bayer receives a 9.775 for her beam routine and Terin is now up.
[ 8:42 PM, 03/17/06 ]
She is throgh the Humphrey mount and the Kotchetkova to bhs to layout stepout; punch front; switch leap to wolf; Omeliantchik (nice)and she dismounts with a round off to 1 1/2 twist - nice landing!
[ top... ]
Barnett receives a 9.65 for her floor routine. Mainly deducted for some
[ 8:40 PM, 03/17/06 ]
problems on the landings and form issues throughout the tumbling.
Puckett is now up with a super high double tuck to open; round off to whip half to whip full to front tuck, nicely controlled sequence; low landing unfortunately and a lunge forward on her final element, the double pike.
[ top... ]
Rightley receives a 9.850 and Mari Bayer is up for the Tide.
[ 8:39 PM, 03/17/06 ]
Opens with a bhs to layout stepout; split side leg scale; switch 1/2 leap, full turn, front aerial to another leg scale; double stag jump, switch leap to straddle; she finishes with a gainer back pike, nailed the landing. Awesome senior!
[ top... ]
Miles received a 9.85 for her beam routine and Pinckney a 9.625 for
[ 8:37 PM, 03/17/06 ]
her floor routine. Barnett opens on floor with a double pike, legs split and a chest down a bit unfortunately. Second pass of a double tuck was better, step forward on landing; she finishes with a front-front full to front layout.
[ top... ]
Erin Rightley is through her front aerial and the bhs to layout stepout is
[ 8:36 PM, 03/17/06 ]
right on; switch leap to straddle-straddle; switch leap to pike; very nice and difficult move; she dismounts with a bhs to gainer full twist, slight step on the landing.
[ top... ]
Seiffert receives a 9.725 for her floor routine. Pinckney opens with a
[ 8:34 PM, 03/17/06 ]
2 1/2 twist to punch front, just a tad low on the second element but she stands it up; front-front full to front layout for her second pass; final pass of a double pike, loose knees and a slight jam on the final landing;
[ top... ]
Banville receives a 9.825 for her beam and Miles is on with the difficult
[ 8:32 PM, 03/17/06 ]
round off to layout stepout, switch leap to side straddle jump; wolf full; gainer bhs to layout stepout; switch to Korbut and she will finish up with a round off to double twist dismount; one small hop on the landing and the crowd is cheering loudly. Way to go senior!
[ top... ]
Holtz gets a 9.025 for her floor routine and Seiffert opens with a strong
[ 8:30 PM, 03/17/06 ]
double pike; front-front full to front layout; finishes with a double tuck, another good landing. This should score well.
[ top... ]
Magee receives a 9.775 for her beam routine. Banville is up next.
[ 8:29 PM, 03/17/06 ]
Split full leap, tiny balance check; flight series is right on; beautiful punch front; switch leap and then a straddle-straddle jump combination, double twist dismount, stuck the landing.
[ top... ]
Senior Danielle Holtz falls on her opening tumbling pass
[ 8:27 PM, 03/17/06 ]
(front to a double full to punch front). Second pass is stronger (front to Rudi to layout step-out). She steps out on the final pass.
[ top... ]
Britt is up first for the Tide on beam.
[ 8:26 PM, 03/17/06 ]
Slight shoulder drop on the second flight element but she throws a really nice front aerial, full turn leg horizontal, switch leap to split jump, punch front (terrific) and a double tuck dismount, one step on the landing.
[ top... ]
Bama has a running total of 98.275 to Auburn's 97.400.
[ 8:20 PM, 03/17/06 ]
[ top... ]
Humphrey takes a tiny hop on her double layout dismount for a 9.80
[ 8:17 PM, 03/17/06 ]
and Bama finishes with a total of 48.90 on this event. Auburn has a 49.025 on the vault.
[ top... ]
Filetti has trouble on her bars release (Gienger) and yet sticks the
[ 8:16 PM, 03/17/06 ]
double front beautifully for a 9.425.
[ top... ]
Gies of Auburn received a 9.85 for her vault and Puckett a 9.875.
[ 8:15 PM, 03/17/06 ]

[ top... ]
Banville receives a 9.825 for her bars routine, another stuck double
[ 8:12 PM, 03/17/06 ]
layout dismount. Mari Bayer just hit her routine beautifully, including the pike Jaeger and the double tuck dismount out of a full twist for a 9.775. Wow, that's strict.
[ top... ]
Somero received a 9.150 for her vault, Seiffert a 9.65 (Y 1/1) and
[ 8:10 PM, 03/17/06 ]
Pinckney a 9.80 for her Y 1/1.
Cassie Martin hits her routine for a 9.75, step forward on the double tuck dismount. Toe on toe off to Tkatchev to pak Salto combination looked terrific.
[ top... ]
Ashley Miles gets the crowd into it again with a marvelous routine on
[ 8:08 PM, 03/17/06 ]
bars, goes for that stick on the landing of the double layout, chest forward and bent to maintain that stick. She receives a 9.75 final score. The judges (Brock and Gail) are cutting all routines tonight on this event.
[ top... ]
Shanna Somero starts off vault for the Tigers.
[ 8:04 PM, 03/17/06 ]
She throws a Yurchenko 1/1 and touches down on the landing, so that will be a major deduction. They will look to throw this out if they can hold up the rest of their vaults.
[ top... ]
Alabama has a 49.375 for the vault total.
[ 8:00 PM, 03/17/06 ]
Auburn has a total on bars of 48.375. Bama leads by one full point.
[ top... ]
Miles receives a 9.90 for her Yurchenko 1/1, slightest hop back.
[ 7:59 PM, 03/17/06 ]
AJ Mills receives a 9.65 and that was a better bars routine than the score indicates (pike Jaeger, double layout dismount). She missed two handstands slightly and took a step on her landing but a 9.65? She had by far the best form of the Tigers, including Dwyer, who received a 9.80. But Dwyer stuck her double layout dismount.
Lenkiewicz throws her Jaeger release almost on top of the bar and almost has to stop but continues and dismounts with a double front, one step forward. She receives a 9.600. Form problems and the rough Jaeger cost her.
[ top... ]
Pinckney receives a 9.65 for her bars routine and Jeff Thompson is
[ 7:56 PM, 03/17/06 ]
over at the head table already complaining. Filetti hits her best vault of the season meanwhile for a 9.90. Magee hits her vault as well for a 9.90 (Y 1/1, one step back).
[ top... ]
O'Neal gets a 9.775 for her vault, a little high considering the form and
[ 7:55 PM, 03/17/06 ]
landing problems. Banville follows with a Y 1/1, hits it pretty well for a 9.850.
[ top... ]
Humphrey receives a 9.825 for her vault.
[ 7:53 PM, 03/17/06 ]
O'Neal throws the front pike 1/2, landed chest down and forward.
Goheen receives a 9.55 for her bars routine. Puckett is through her routine, again without a major release move, double twisting flyaway dismount, one step on the landing. She receives a 9.675.
[ top... ]
First up for the Tide on vault is Terin Humphrey.
[ 7:50 PM, 03/17/06 ]
She throws the Yurchenko 1/1 and hops forward again this week, really going for that stick.
Amy Goheen is up first on bars and has a toe shoot transtion to the high bar and dismounts with a double tuck, good distance but chest down and a lunge step forward.

[ 7:25 PM, 03/17/06 ]
They are taking a little longer to get the gals out because it is Senior Night here in Coleman Coliseum. What an emotional night it will be when the parents and our 2006 seniors are introduced for their final official home competition. We love you Ashley, Dana P., Dana F., Rachael and Mari-Christine! Thanks for the memories: SEC Champions in 2003, 2nd Place at Nationals that same year, 3rd in 2004, 2nd again last year and hopefully, national champs this year! Roll Tide!
[ top... ]
The crowd is unfortunately not up to the previous home meets of this
[ 7:24 PM, 03/17/06 ]
season. Spring break started officially at 5 pm today across the state and on the campus of UA, so unless we have a late-arriving crowd, look for under 10,000 as the final tally.

Injury Update
[ 7:14 PM, 03/17/06 ]
Both teams are pretty healthy at this point of the season. Auburn saw the return of freshman AJ Mills a few weeks ago to their bars and beam line-up after suffering a stress fracture earlier in the year. Alabama will be without Kaitlin White tonight after she tweaked her knee a bit during practice earlier this week on the balance beam. She is expected back for SECs.
Keys to victory: For the Auburn Tigers, they need to avoid having to count a fall on bars to start things off. If they can hit at least five of their routines, that puts pressure on the Tide immediately. Auburn is within striking distance of the Tide on vault and floor and is ahead of the Tide on beam for season average, so the uneven bars could be the definitive event if Bama falters.
For the Crimson Tide, the coaches are looking for that signature regular season meet that starts to define the look of a post-season champion. It hasn't happened to their satisfaction so far despite Bama having a 13-1 record at this point. But will the emotion of tonight's final senior home performance lead to some nervy routines? Time will tell. If Bama hits the way the coaches know they can, look for possibly their highest score of the season.

Bama moves to the balance beam and Auburn to the floor.
[ 6:41 PM, 03/17/06 ]
Cassie and Mari have started the warm-ups on beam.
Mari has that intense, fierce look of concentration on her face again tonight. It's hard to believe four years have come and almost gone since we first met Mari and her parents on the road in Denver her freshman year, and later on at Lincoln for nationals. They are terrific folks and we'll miss them alot when Mari-Christine finishes up here at the Capstone. Ditto for Danny and Lisa Pierce, Dan and Jean Filetti, Gerry and Nancy Delahoussaye and Sherine Miles.
[ top... ]
Atta way Court Priess! Perfect routine just then in long warm-ups on
[ 6:37 PM, 03/17/06 ]
bars. David Patterson gives her a huge smile and a high five in response. Dang we love that Arabian double front dismount. If she nails her routine tonight just like that, look for the big score.
Filetti gets the okay from David Patterson to move on after her final solid dismount landing of the double front.
[ top... ]
Court is struggling on that Tkatchev, going for major air time.
[ 6:33 PM, 03/17/06 ]
Filetti is trying to stick every handstand to avoid any deduction tonight. Super routine just then from Cassie Martin. Lovely toe-on toe-off to Tkatchev to pak Salto combination.
Auburn will be throwing six 10.0 valued vaults tonight, another terrific area of improvement for them in the past two years. That makes the competition tonight all the better.
[ top... ]
Gorgeous routine just then from Terin Humphrey, including a stuck

[ top... ]
Auburn is finishing up on the uneven bars long warm-ups and have
[ 6:24 PM, 03/17/06 ]
really improved their form and difficulty on this event in just the past two years. Bama is now ready to do a 15 minute long warm up on this event as the Tigers move to the vault.

Welcome to Coleman Coliseum for the final regular season meet
[ 6:19 PM, 03/17/06 ]
between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Auburn Tigers.
Bama is just finishing up long warm-ups on the vault and the gals are in a great mood. Senior Dana Pierce is warming up vault and will possibly go in place of Kaitlin White tonight, who had a knee tweak earlier this week during balance beam practice. She is walking around fine and the knee is not wrapped. Ashley O'Neal will also possibly be inserted for White and hit some nice front pike 1/2 twist vaults. The gals are trying to focus on the stuck landings tonight.
