2014 NCAA Semifinals

Alabama, Florida and Nebraska Advance from Session II to the Super Six

Alabama and Florida tied at 197.650 and Nebraska finished in third, followed by Utah, UCLA and Penn State.

We hope to see the fans back for the Super Six at 6:00 pm CST on Saturday Night from the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Center in Birmingham, Alabama.

Session II Rotation 6 – Alabama: Vault – 49.350 (197.650)

Kaitlyn Clark – Y  1/1 – one slight foot check back on the landing – huge distance and amplitude. 9.900

Katie Bailey – Arabian 1/2 – nails it cold!  Crowd erupts! 9.950 was raised but then the official scoreboard is showing her with a 9.850.  Hard to imagine, it was a great vault.

Sarah DeMeo – Y 1/1 – hop on the landing – beautiful form, amplitude and distance. 9.875

Kim Jacob – Y 1.5 – split legs on entry – jammed leg to the right on landing – 9.825

Lauren Beers – Y 1/1 – small shift on landing – great vault in the air – 9.900

Diandra Milliner – Y 1.5 – falls on landing – didn’t look good in the air. 9.275

Balance Beam – Penn State – 48.075 (194.825)

Floor Exercise – Florida: 9.900, 9.850, 9.875, 9.900 for Sloan, Hunter has a check landing forward on her double tuck final pass – 9.900, Caquatto closes for them – big knee bend at the end with the double pike – 9.850  49.425  (197.650)

Session II Rotation 5 – Alabama: Floor Exercise – 49.575 (148.300)

Lora Frost – double layout to open and double pike to close – leaps first series were a little awkward – she sold this routine with enthusiasm.  9.900

Katie Bailey – double front Arabian to open – huge in the air – front punch layout to 1/1 – landed it on a dime – finishes with a punch front layout to a Rudi – big smile on her face to close out – 9.875

Sarah DeMeo – double front Arabian to open – problems on her second pass – stands it up – but went in flat on her middle element – too much energy? Finishes strong with a 2.5 twist – 9.750.

Lauren Beers – opens with a double front layout – no problem with her second pass – must be brave on this final pass – difficult double tuck – excellent! 9.925

Kim Jacob – opens with a pike full in – double pike for her second pass – must be strong on this final difficult front tumbling sequence 1.5 through to a 1/1 – and she nails it – crowd is on their feet cheering. 9.950

Diandra Milliner – huge double front Arabian to open – front-front to front 1/1 – huge double pike to close – major airtime.  9.925

Balance Beam – Florida – 9.850, 9.800, 9.900, Sloan bends at waist on one element and then falls on another – 9.200, 9.900 for Caquatto, 9.850 for Hunter, happy gal – just a few tiny glitches and a very nice double tuck dismount. 49.300

Floor Exercise – Utah – 9.850, 9.900, 9.875, 9.925, Dabritz has trouble on her second and final pass but stands the triple closing pass with a slight buckle of the knees – 9.775, 9.925 for Damianova.   49.475

Session II Rotation 3 – Alabama: Balance Beam: 49.350 (98.725)

Diandra Milliner – solid routine from the senior – so happy! One step back on the double twist dismount landing.  9.825

Sarah DeMeo – front punch layout onto the beam – double stag leap – front aerial – bhs to back pike – solid – full turn – switch split leap to split jump – double pike dismount – hops in place on the landing – crowd erupts! 9.900

Katie Bailey – precise routine – good toe point, extension and tumbling execution from start to finish – tiny hop on the double twist dismount – happy freshman! 9.875

Aja Sims – front aerial – bends at waist but quickly sweeps right back up and easily stays on – bhs to loso – a little nervous up there – switch split leap to straddle jump – switch side straddle – excellent amplitude – reverse turn – lunging step forward on her dismount of the double tuck so this routine will be hit hard. Immediate pressure on the next two routines. 9.700

Kaitlyn Clark – switch split leap to split leap combination – bhs to loso – beautiful – beat jump to sheep jump – full turn – front aerial kickover – confident! A little shoulder shift but she completes it without further check – dismounts with a 1.5 twist – one bounce step forward – going for the amplitude and distance. 9.825

Kim Jacob – switch split leap to straddle 1/1 – bhs to lo to lo – right on with a huge smile and roar of the crowd – beautiful smile as well after she nails the barani – dismounts with a 1.5 – tiniest hop forward on the landing – crowd ecstatic! 9.925

Session II Rotation 2 – Alabama: Uneven Bars: 49.375

Katie Bailey  – great start for the Tide – and the crowd is in it immediately.  Very nice handstands and a stuck double tuck flyaway landing out of a full turn on top of the bar. 9.900

Sarah DeMeo – another great routine, sticks the double layout dismount – straddle Jaeger release – nice handstands.  9.90

Aja Sims – hits one handstand and stays there for a millennium – some ankle separation on the Weiler kip – sticks the double layout dismount. 9.800.

Kim Jacob – excellent Ray – just misses vertical on the handstands though – nails the double layout dismount to the delight of the crowd. 9.925

Amanda Jetter – hop forward on the double front Arabian – nice handstands – Ray release regrasp pretty close to that bar but she never stopped her momentum – excellent amplitude on the toe shoot straddle from low to high bar.  9.850

Kaitlyn Clark – strong routine until the dismount – big check lunge step forward for a 9.725   49.375
